Dirty Ghosts – Metal Moon - Album Review
Last Gang Records
By Kayla Colanardi
San Francisco band Dirty Ghosts’ debut LP Metal Moon is a great mix of punk, electro, and some old school rock with all of these amazing genres mixing together to create one really cool experimental sound.
Canadian born female singer Allyson Baker has a voice that can range from sounding vulnerable, to heavy, to really soft, which varies the moods of each song.
‘Ropes That Way’ is a great opener for this album, as we get a feel for the band’s unique sound. With some subtle electro and intense guitar riffs, this song definitely makes you want to jump around.
With tracks ‘Shout It In’ and ‘No Video’ we get a bit more of a taste of the band’s experimental sounds, with both songs beginning with groovy space-like sounds, but soaring into gritty guitar riffs as the song progresses.
The band throws in ‘Katana Rock’, which has old-school rock mixing with undulating guitar vibrations. The wavy guitar notes are a nice addition to Baker’s echoing lyrics in the song. I can see ‘Katana Rock’ being one of their hits.
Album closer ‘Beast Size’, despite its name, is very vulnerable and soft sounding, however with very powerful lyrics.
With plenty of edgy guitar riffs, subtle electro, and a voice that pulls you in, Metal Moon is definitely an album you will want to have dominating your playlists.
