If ever there was a time that a band didn’t need an excuse to not be at their best, it was the Zoobombs on Saturday night. With the horrific disaster in Japan weighing heavily on their hearts and minds, the Tokyo based rockers would have been well within their right to cancel altogether. Zoobombs, famous for their steroid-fueled stage shows, have always attracted big crowds and Saturday night’s performance at Comfort Zone was no exception. But ask anyone who was in the crowd that night and they would agree that the passion of this show was off the chart. While his band mates performed in their usual stoic postures, Don Matsuo orbited the tiny stage cranking out a gapless stream of lyrics and blazing guitar licks that frenzied up fans. It was an awe-inspiring set and a perfect example of how courage and music combined can help even the worst situations become more bearable.
